How to improve the shrinkage problem of plastic molds

How can the shrinkage problem of Plastic Molds be improved? The shortening caused by the protrusions of ribs (commonly known as bone positions) in thicker Plastic mold components is more severe than in nearby areas, because the cooling rate in thicker areas is much slower than in surrounding areas. The different cooling rates lead to the formation of depressions at the connection surface, which is known as shortening marks.
There may be one or more reasons for the formation of shortened marks, including processing methods, several shapes of components, selection of materials, and mold planning. The selection of some shapes and materials is usually determined by the original material supplier and is not easily changed.
Mold manufacturers may also have many factors related to mold planning that may affect shortening, and cooling channel planning, gate type, and gate size may have multiple effects. For example, small gates such as tubular gates cool much faster than conical gates, and premature cooling at the gate can reduce the filling time in the mold cavity, thereby increasing the likelihood of shortening marks occurring.
For injection molding workers, adjusting the injection molding process is one way to solve the problem of shortening. The injection pressure and time have the same effect on shortening. After the component is filled, the remaining data continues to be filled into the mold cavity to compensate for the shortening of the data. If the injection time is too short, it will cause the shortening to worsen, and ultimately result in more or larger shortening marks. This method itself may not be able to reduce the shortened marks to a satisfactory level, but the molding worker can adjust the filling conditions to improve the shortened marks.
